Yield: 12-16 Servings
Prep: 15 min. Bake: approx. 35 min.
1/2 C. Shortening
1 C. Boiling Water
1 C. Flour
4 unbeaten Eggs
1/4 tsp. Salt

Bring Shortening and Water to boiling. Mix Salt with Flour and add all at once to boiling mixture. Beat vigorously until smooth. Remove from heat. Add eggs one at a time. Beat thoroughly after each addition. Drop mixture into 12 to 16 portions on greased baking sheet. Bake at 450 deg. for 10 min. then reduce heat to 400 de. and bake 24 to 30 min. longer. Cool, slit and fill.
MY NOTE: I like to fill with Chocolate and Vanilla Pudding. With a little powdered sugar on top and sometimes some coolwhip on the side.
What can you use instead of shortening, do you know?
ReplyDeleteYou know I am not sure, but you might be able to use butter, and I know that my mom found this new organic stuff that is suppose to substitute like shortening really well. I will check with her and let you know.
ReplyDeleteThanks!
ReplyDeleteI am going to try and make them using butter today and see if that works. I will let you know.
ReplyDeleteOh, you can try some coconut oil too, if you have any.
ReplyDeleteThanks! I'm excited to find out. I've used recipes with shortening before and all I could taste was the shortening. I can taste it when restaurants use it in their desserts, too. Interesting. Anyway, thanks again!
